Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna - The Renovation of the rooms is completed

The renovation of the rooms in Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna, with Helsinki's most central location, has been completed. During the year-long renovation, all 270 hotel rooms and

floors were renewed. The hotel, which was opened in the year of the Olympics in 1952, offers its guests spectacular views of Helsinki from most hotel rooms as well as its

meeting- and dining areas.

Hotel Vaakuna is also the masterpiece of the world-renowned functionalist architect Erkki Huttunen’s and the architect's main work in Helsinki. Huttunen himself designed the hotel

and its furniture down to the smallest detail. Only the luminaires are the work of Huttunen's colleague, lighting designer Paavo Tynell.

The hotel classic has been tastefully renovated by preserving the building's original design language and 1950's atmosphere. The armchairs designed by Huttunen have been reupholstered and the peace doves decorating the hotel lobby have flown onto the walls of

the hotel rooms. Tynell's light fixtures continue to illuminate the hotel rooms on the ninth floor and the building's public spaces. The mild colour palette, the clarity of the interior and the arched shapes of the building add to the softness of the hotel experience.

Unique Helsinki panorama

The original features of the Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna include the Helsinki panorama, which from the hotel's premises opens up into four directions. The view was further

emphasized during the renovation by placing the hotel rooms' beds in a way that allows enjoying the view of the city directly upon awakening. All 46 rooms on the top 9th floor have their own furnished panoramic balconies. The finest settings are provided by the building’s suites, some of which have balconies, some with their own sauna. The Friends & Family theme suites can accommodate up to 7 people. The Business & Romance Suite, which comprises a living room and a bedroom, is suitable for both stylish meetings and romantic wedding nights.

The luxurious 80 square meters large Vaakuna suite overlooks the Finnish Parliament building and the Töölö bay. The elegant suite consists of a bedroom with a dressing room,

a living room with sofa and a dining area and private sauna. This centrally situated suite is also ideal for meetings and festive events.

The renovation of the lobby is up next. "With the lobby renovated before summer 2019, travellers will be offered a well-balanced combination of an original functionalist interior and modern design, where one can experience many different hotel and Helsinki ambiances. At the same time, restaurant Loiste, with its original design and views, offers our guests a fantastic breakfast- and dining experience”, says hotel General Manager Satu Näsärö.
